Composting is essential to our gardens and soils because it returns the necessary nutrients for planting back to the soil. When we compost we naturally accelerate fertilization in soils that may be exhausted from previous planting.
By composting, we add organic materials to the soil which improves moisture retention, feeds beneficial organisms and provides a slow–release of nutrients available for the plants we grow.
It can also save use money by cutting out the price of using chemical fertilizers or store bought manure.
Some things we can put in our compost are: 1) Fruits 2) Vegetables 3) Egg shells 4) Other plant based products
But NOT 1) Meat 2) Dairy 3) Weeds
